Why We Built This Site
West Virginia permits public access to many court and agency records, but it does not place Hancock County criminal history in one database. Initial complaints and many misdemeanors are held through Magistrate Court, while felony indictments and dispositions belong with the Hancock County Circuit Clerk. The Hancock County Sheriff's Office and each municipal police department keep the reports they create. Fingerprint-supported state history is handled through the West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, current custody through the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and registry information through the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. The site brings those distinct routes together without implying that one source replaces another.

What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site with no connection to a West Virginia court, sheriff, police department, corrections office, or state agency. Its limits are practical and legal:
- We do not run official background checks or retrieve a person's criminal record
- We cannot provide certified court documents, rap sheets, or agency reports
- We do not submit expungement petitions or public-record requests for visitors
- We cannot advise anyone how a charge, warrant, or court outcome applies to a specific case
- We cannot promise that an agency's fee, phone number, hours, or procedure has not changed
Official copies must come from the office that maintains them, such as the Hancock County clerk, the creating police agency, or the West Virginia State Police.
Search Partners
Search boxes on some pages are supplied by outside providers. Those providers control their services, results, and prices. A paid signup reached through one of the tools may produce a referral fee that supports this site's operation, but we do not control the provider's records or charges.
